Hey guys,
The class ISYS100: IT & Society inspired us to write this blog on the shows we love, and so we thought it would be great to promote their follow-on unit, ISYS200. This videos shows a comedic view of the unit, featuring ourselves (Laura, Amanda, Sean and Hannah). As this was the first time editing a video, please don't be critical!

FAMILY GUY
FAMILY GUY
Its one of the most controversial shows on television, and has been throughout its 14 years on (and off) television. Its hard not to know or heard about Family Guy, but hopefully this post will shed some light upon the show for the uninitiated few. The Griffins are made up for Mother and Father Lois and Peter, their three children, teenagers Meg and Chris and maniacal baby Stewie, as well as their dog Brian.

The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory
Welcome to my final post on the Big Bang Theory. If you're wondering what the show is about it all begins with two characters Leonard and Sheldon who are brilliant physicists who are roommates and study together at the university with their fellow companions Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali. Penny who is an attractive lady moves in across the hall from Sheldon and Leonard. She has ambitions to become a professional actress but works at the cheesecake factory and aims to teach them a thing or two about life as they are socially challenged.

- "Interesting. You're afraid of insects and women. Ladybugs must render you catatonic."
- "No, the X-men were named for the X in Charles Xavier. Since I am Sheldon Cooper, you will be my C-men."
- "No, you don't screw the roommate agreement. The roommate agreement screws you."
- "Sheldon's escaped and he's terrorizing the village."
- "When he wasn't happy, we wanted to kill him. There was even a plan, we were going to throw" his Kindle outside, and when he went to get it, lock the door and let him freeze to death.

-Penny

Why is The Big Bang Theory Awesome?
The Big Bang Theory is the most awesome show created! The cast has great chemistry with each other, intelligent humour and hilarious sarcasm. I have watched all seasons countless times and the show never fails to make me laugh!

30 Rock!
30 Rock:
In a few years to
come 30 Rock will be known as a comedy classic. It ran for 7 seasons with an
average of 24 episodes for each. It was written by Tina fey and is loosely
based on her experiences as one of the head writers on the hit show SNL.
What It’s About:
It is pretty much
a backdrop for a show similar to SNL, were Liz Lemon goes through the motions
of work, social life and self-motivation in New York. Sounds like any old sex
and the city type show, but believe me when I say it is not! The comedy value
is brilliant due to Tina Fey and the other actors.
Stand Out Characters In It:
Liz Lemon played
by SNL alumni Tina Fey is the main character that lives her life around work. She
becomes her bosses, Jack Donaghy, protégé as he is the opposite of what
everything Liz Lemon is.
Jack Donaghy played
by Alec Baldwin is the decisive, controlling, suave-smooth boss of Liz Lemon.
Tracy Jordan,
played by another SNL Alumni Tracy Morgan. His character is a loose cannon, unpredictable
pain in Lemon’s side.
Jenna Maroney
played by Jane Krakowski is an attention seeking “star” of the show, who is
also Liz Lemons “best friend”
Kenneth Parcell
played by Jack McBrayer is the cheerful, southern-born page clerk, and Tracy’s
sometimes assistant.
The show also has
a huge list of celebrities who make an appearance every now and again
including:
- Al Gore
- Oprah Windfrey
- Elvis Costello
- Wyclef Jean
- Larry King
- Jon Hamm
- Calvin Klein
- James Franco
- Jon Bon Jovi
- John Lithgow
- Matt Damon
-
And so
many more.
Why it’s awesome:
The above reasons
weren’t enough the show is comedy gold that will have you laughing the whole
time. Its mixture of diverse and complex characters are clever and humorous and
it is a light and easy watch.
Have you watched
it? What did you think? Did you
hate it? Tell me why?

The OC!
The OC was one of my favourite shows. I
eagerly awaited each new weekly instalment and was devastated when the show
ended after its fourth season. The OC is yet again another American drama,
following the lives of affluent US teenagers and their families residing in
Orange County (the “OC”), California. The teens are transitioning from high
school to college/work life throughout the show, and relationships form,
friendships emerge, and the controversial topics of teen drinking, drugs, sex,
etc, all come in to play in this show. The OC is a great TV show to watch to
feel like you’re living the life of a wealthy American teenager – oh how we all
wish to live in mansions, drive expensive cars, go to rich private schools,
have an elegant social life – aah! Although my slant on The OC would naturally
seem feminine, I can assure you that it is not! The OC has many gorgeous, cute,
sexy, and relatable actors and actresses, notably Summer, Seth, Marissa, and
Ryan. The OC follows the lives of these three teens, amid the introduction of
the outcast Ryan (from a poor town in the US) into their group, school, and friendships.
The OC first aired in August 2003, and ran until
February 2007. The show received favourable reviews and attracted masses upon
masses of viewers each week – it was a massive success! Unfortunately, the main
character, Marissa, decided to quit the show to pursue films and to “move on”
from The OC. Personally, this was a big mistake – as she, and the show, were
doing so well! So after Marissa left, the fourth season bombed out big time,
and then got axed, as the main character was gone – how the hell do you recover
from that?!?
This is a picture of the four main
characters: Seth, Summer, Ryan, Marissa. Marissa (on the right) unfortunately
left the show after three seasons, resulting in its axe.
Although I can’t say “tune in each week”
for this show, I do recommend viewing it, by either purchasing it or watching
it legally online. As with any show, you have to watch the trailer and the
pilot episode in order to establish your initial thoughts, and then the
following few episodes will tell you whether or not you will be hooked. I had
to do that with The OC, Arrow, Gossip Girl, and many other shows: you can’t get
hooked from the first five minutes – it’s a deep commitment within your brain!
But if you do feel like stepping into rich US teen life, and being in their
dramas and occurrences for the day: the OC is the show to watch, the place to
be! This is the official trailer for The OC Season 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83luogMA61c
That’s it for this week folks. Please feel
free to comment any shows that Sean, Laura, Amanda, or myself could review and
post up – and we’ll be happy to do so! J

Doctor Who
The Show
On November 23rd, 1963, at 5:15pm, the first ever episode of an enigmatic new science fiction series was first broadcast by the BBC. Two months shy of fifty years later, the show is not only still running, but is more popular now than it ever has been before! New waves of generations continue to be enthralled by the mysteries 'Doctor', a time traveller running from his past and his people. He is alone, the last off his kind, however he always manages to find companionship amongst the friends he meets along the way. What is so unique, so special about this show are the endless possibilities. Each story can be set in any time or anywhere in the universe (and beyond). Massive international cult followings and captivating story arcs have kept this show going strong for the better part of half a century.
The Doctors
There is one Doctor, the man whose real name is never known but whose reputation echoes throughout all of time and space. He is a man of many faces due to his time lord ability to regenerate each time his body dies. One of the most ingenious plot devices that ever paid off, audiences have experienced the adventures of 12 different, yet the same, doctors.
William Hartnel (1963-1966)
Patrick Troughton (1966- 1969)
Jon Pertwee (1970- 1974)
Tom Baker (1974- 1981)
Peter Davison (1981- 1984)
Colin Baker (1984- 1986)
Sylvester McCoy (1987- 1989)
Pail McGann (1996)
Christopher Eccleston (2005)
David Tennant (2005- 2010)
Matt Smith (2010- 2013)
Peter Capaldi (2013- ????)
With the 50th anniversary and the regeneration between Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi fast approaching, anticipation among the millions of fans seems to be overwhelming. What will finally be revealed about the Doctor and his past? How will the 11th Doctor die? And how the hell does John Hurt fit in as a 'forgotten' doctor? All will be revealed, as is promised by current show runner Stephen Moffat, yet considering it has taken 50 years to reach this point where we still know so little about the Doctor and his secrets, something tells me only more questions will be asked before answered.
Watch the current opening title sequence for series 7 part 2
Watch this fan-made tribute to 50 years of Doctor Who!
I am a shameless fanatic of this fantastic show, and can't wait to see just what happens next, it could, literally, be anything!
Thanks heaps!
Sean.
