The OC was one of my favourite shows. I
eagerly awaited each new weekly instalment and was devastated when the show
ended after its fourth season. The OC is yet again another American drama,
following the lives of affluent US teenagers and their families residing in
Orange County (the “OC”), California. The teens are transitioning from high
school to college/work life throughout the show, and relationships form,
friendships emerge, and the controversial topics of teen drinking, drugs, sex,
etc, all come in to play in this show. The OC is a great TV show to watch to
feel like you’re living the life of a wealthy American teenager – oh how we all
wish to live in mansions, drive expensive cars, go to rich private schools,
have an elegant social life – aah! Although my slant on The OC would naturally
seem feminine, I can assure you that it is not! The OC has many gorgeous, cute,
sexy, and relatable actors and actresses, notably Summer, Seth, Marissa, and
Ryan. The OC follows the lives of these three teens, amid the introduction of
the outcast Ryan (from a poor town in the US) into their group, school, and friendships.
The OC first aired in August 2003, and ran until
February 2007. The show received favourable reviews and attracted masses upon
masses of viewers each week – it was a massive success! Unfortunately, the main
character, Marissa, decided to quit the show to pursue films and to “move on”
from The OC. Personally, this was a big mistake – as she, and the show, were
doing so well! So after Marissa left, the fourth season bombed out big time,
and then got axed, as the main character was gone – how the hell do you recover
from that?!?
This is a picture of the four main
characters: Seth, Summer, Ryan, Marissa. Marissa (on the right) unfortunately
left the show after three seasons, resulting in its axe.
Although I can’t say “tune in each week”
for this show, I do recommend viewing it, by either purchasing it or watching
it legally online. As with any show, you have to watch the trailer and the
pilot episode in order to establish your initial thoughts, and then the
following few episodes will tell you whether or not you will be hooked. I had
to do that with The OC, Arrow, Gossip Girl, and many other shows: you can’t get
hooked from the first five minutes – it’s a deep commitment within your brain!
But if you do feel like stepping into rich US teen life, and being in their
dramas and occurrences for the day: the OC is the show to watch, the place to
be! This is the official trailer for The OC Season 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83luogMA61c
That’s it for this week folks. Please feel
free to comment any shows that Sean, Laura, Amanda, or myself could review and
post up – and we’ll be happy to do so! J
