Orange is the new black

Orange Is The New Black is a successful American television show that came out early this year. So far it has completed only one season, with 13 episodes, but in June it was announced that a second series would be filmed.


What It’s About:

Pretty much Orange Is The New Black is based on a real life biography of Piper Kerman. It takes placed mostly in a women’s federal prison in up state New York, where Piper, the main charter is hands her self in after a drug charge 10 years prior. Within thee walls of the women’s federal prison is an array of dynamic female characters.  It is a very comedic TV show, whoever it also dives deep into some social issues such as race, homosexuality and power roles between authorities. All in all is gives the audience a well scripted show with the right amount of comedy and drama to stop it from getting stale. .

Stand Out Characters In It:

The characters in the show are the main reason behind its success, with a largely female character based show; it has really excelled viewers and critics ideals, to create its own unique applause.
The main characters include:

Piper Kerman played by Taylor Schilling. She looks familiar because she started in many movies including Argo, The lucky one and Dark matter.



Alex Vause played by the beautiful Laura Prepon, a “That 70’s show" alumni. She is a highlight to the show.


Some of the recurring cast include:

Red, played by Kate Mulgrew, who brings a Russian mafia style to the prison


Crazy eyes, played by Uzo Aduba,



Sophia Bureset, played by Laverne Cox, who is the first transgendered person to play a transgendered lady in the show. 



As well as many more very talented female actresses portraying dynamic and very convincing inmates. 

Why it’s awesome:

This show is an easy watch that goes beyond the typical female comedy. It shows intelligent humor, as well as some true and gritty emotion that is played out with an amazing cast.
